The Central Executive Council (CEC) of Global Iqbalians Organization (GIO) elected the following candidates for the following positions. The newly elected body was announced for the forthcoming two years 2021-23.

PRESIDENT

Mr Asghar is a Cheshire based ophthalmologist, graduated from AIMC in 1983.He has been trained and worked in different hospitals of Pakistan, Republic of Ireland and United Kingdom in different capacities, from SHO to Consultant Ophthalmologist (locum).

Mr Asghar’s areas of subspecialty interest are Phacoemulsification cataract surgery,Femto Laser assisted Natural lens exchange with Multifocal IOL,Glaucoma, Medical retina and Ocular Ultrasound. Along with providing services in NHS for over 23 years he is also involved in Teaching, training, research and publications and has been appointed Accredited Assessor for trainees, by Royal College of Ophthalmologist, London, he is also accredited clinical supervision in his Trust.

Mr Asghar has been appointed Supervisor for Extended Independent Nurse Prescribing Programme, Chester University. He is National Ocular Ultrasound course instructor. He has represented doctors at Education forum at Mersey Deanery and is also Accredited BMA representative locally and at Mersey region level.Represents doctors at Joint Local Negociating Committee(JLNC) at MCHFT.
Along with his busy professional responsibilities, he supports various social and charitable projects in UK and Pakistan.
He is a Trustee of Hashim Welfare Hospital Appeal UK and leads its North West chapter.

Mr Asghar is also actively involved in a campaign for community health awareness of eye diseases and regularly participates in radio and community TV Health shows. Mr Asghar is Director of Association of Pakistani Physician & Surgeons UK (APPSUK), Allama Iqbal Medical College Alumni UK(AIMCAUK)

He worked as a Registrar and Senior Registrar in North West Thames Rotation, followed by his appointment as RSO at the world famous St. Mark’s hospital for Colorectal Disease. He trained in Radio-immunoguided surgery at The Ohio State University Medical Centre, Columbus, Ohio, USA with Professor. Edward W Martin. He is a consultant General, Colorectal & Laparoscopic Gastrointestinal Surgeon at Macclesfield District General Hospital, East Cheshire NHS Trust, Macclesfield. Mr Khan is Clinical Director for Surgical Services. Mr Khan is lead for Enhanced Recovery after Surgery. He is also Lead & Co-ordinator for National Emergency Laparotomy Audit. Mr Khan is member of Manchester Cancer Pathway Board. He is also member of NHS colorectal Cancer Peer review board.

Mr Khan is founder member of MASNoW (Minimal Access Surgery North West), an organisation for development of laparoscopic surgery both for trainees and young consultants. He also is a PLAB examiner for GMC. His previous appointments have been clinical Lead for General surgery & Allied specialties, colorectal Cancer lead and Mersey Deanery tutor for Specialty Doctors. An NHS audit in 2014 concluded that Mr Khan’s Patient Related outcomes were among the top ten percent of Consultant Surgeons in the country.

Mr Khan is a Fellow of Association of Surgeons of Great Britain & Ireland, Fellow of Association of Laparoscopic Surgeons of Great Britain & Ireland, Member of Hospital Consultants and Specialists Association

His research interests are Laparoscopic Colorectal Surgery and Enhanced Recovery, Pelvic Floor Disorder & Day case surgery. His team regularly publishes & presents at national & international meetings.

Dr Muddassar is a Consultant Rheumatologist who completed his training in Ireland and achieved specialist registration in Rheumatology and General Internal Medicine in 2020 . He is currently working in Bon Secours Hospital , Tralee, Ireland.

Over the past five years, Dr Muddassar has worked in University Hospital Kerry, Beaumont Hospital, Tallaght University Hospital and most recently in Our Lady’s Hospital Manorhamilton. Dr Muddassar is a Member of the Royal College of Physicians in Ireland and fellow of Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow UK. He is also international Fellow of American College of Rheumatology.

Dr. Kashif Chauhan is a Paediatric Surgeon currently working in the United Kingdom with an interest in neonatal and lower gastrointestinal surgery. He graduated from Allama Iqbal Medical College Lahore, Pakistan and completed his basic surgical training in Ireland and further obtained higher surgical training in Paediatric Surgery in the United Kingdom.
 
He was the Vice Chairman of Pakistan Cultural Association Cambridge in 2011 for 3 years and conducted a number of cultural events for the Pakistani community during this time.
 
.In 2016 he founded NODFA which expanded rapidly and became one of the most popular organisations of the UK (National Overseas Doctors Family Association UK). He is the President of that Association, and is the Regional head of AIMCA (Allama Iqbal Medical College Alumni of UK) and also the Country Chair of UK and Board Member of APPS Europe (Association of Pakistani Physicians and Surgeons Europe) 
 
In 2019 he received the Highest Achievement Award of Nottinghamshire by the Shadow Minister of UK government in recognition of his work for the doctors and the community at large.
 
He is actively involved in many projects and conducted multiple educational and teaching seminars, social and sports activities for the junior as well as senior doctors. He also helped many doctors and guided them towards a successful career in the UK.
During the current COVID-19 pandemic, his whole team worked voluntarily to help & support the community and vulnerable people and it was appreciated and Acknowledged in writing by the local Government.
 
He also collaborated with the Federal Government of Pakistan in the teaching programmes for the doctors to keep them updated regarding the latest research and management guidelines that are available in Europe.
 
He raised the concerns of BAME doctors during the pandemic at the Government level in the UK as well as Pakistan. Dr Chauhan’s main objective is to keep Iqbalians under one umbrella so that everyone can help and support each other whenever and wherever needed in all forms of life.  Now is the time to give something back to our Alma mater and he is very enthusiastic to do so.
 
He is always available to help and support  Iqbalians and work on the formula ” All for one and One for All”. He feels that we all need to promote, guide and help our Iqbalians to make them shine like Stars all over the world. May GOD help us all to achieve that.
 
He is a man of principles with a great vision. It is rather difficult to match his enthusiasm and determination and people love him for his sincerity. He is very proud to be an Iqbalians and always thankful to his Alma matter and God, due to which he has achieved his Goals.

Held the positions of RCoA College Tutor & FICM Faculty Tutor as well as Quality Improvement Lead for North of England for Faculty of Medical Leadership & Management (FMLM) while in UK. DrUsman Mahmood is an experienced consultant ophthalmologist, vitreoretinal surgeon and head of department at Mediclinic Airport Road Hospital. 

In the past he has worked as a consultant ophthalmologist and lead retinal surgeon at Royal Victoria Eye and Ear Hospital, Dublin, Ireland, Waterford Regional hospital, Ireland and University Hospital of North Staffordshire, Stoke on Trent, England where he was the lead for Retinal surgery service.  

He has a fellowship in Vitreoretinal Surgery from Manchester Royal Eye Hospital, Manchester, UK. He is a member of the European Society of Vitreoretinal Surgeons and a life member of the Ophthalmic Society of Pakistan.

Mr Usman khan graduated in 1983 from AIMC. He trained in Pakistan, Ireland, UK & USA. He worked as a Registrar and Senior Registrar in North West Thames Rotation, followed by his appointment as RSO at the world famous St. Mark’s hospital for Colorectal Disease. He trained in Radio-immunoguided surgery at The Ohio State University Medical Centre, Columbus, Ohio, USA with Professor. Edward W Martin. He is a consultant General, Colorectal & Laparoscopic Gastrointestinal Surgeon at Macclesfield District General Hospital, East Cheshire NHS Trust, Macclesfield. Mr Khan is Clinical Director for Surgical Services. Mr Khan is lead for Enhanced Recovery after Surgery. He is also Lead & Co-ordinator for National Emergency Laparotomy Audit. Mr Khan is member of Manchester Cancer Pathway Board. He is also member of NHS colorectal Cancer Peer review board.

Mr Khan is founder member of MASNoW (Minimal Access Surgery North West), an organisation for development of laparoscopic surgery both for trainees and young consultants. He also is a PLAB examiner for GMC. His previous appointments have been clinical Lead for General surgery & Allied specialties, colorectal Cancer lead and Mersey Deanery tutor for Specialty Doctors. An NHS audit in 2014 concluded that Mr Khan’s Patient Related outcomes were among the top ten percent of Consultant Surgeons in the country.

Mr Khan is a Fellow of Association of Surgeons of Great Britain & Ireland, Fellow of Association of Laparoscopic Surgeons of Great Britain & Ireland, Member of Hospital Consultants and Specialists Association

His research interests are Laparoscopic Colorectal Surgery and Enhanced Recovery, Pelvic Floor Disorder & Day case surgery. His team regularly publishes & presents at national & international meetings.

Mr Khan is member of APPSUK Central Executive Council. He is also associated with several charity organisations both inside & outside Pakistan. Khan enjoys mountaineering, motorcycling, walking, working in the gym and spending time with family & friends.
